Tasty Apple Pie

Ouadie RhabbouronJuly 14, 2026

If you love the comforting flavors of traditional apple pie but don’t want to spend time making pastry dough or heating the oven, this quick skillet apple cake is the perfect solution. Tender cinnamon-spiced apples are gently caramelized before being covered with a light, fluffy batter that cooks right on the stovetop. The result is a beautiful dessert that captures the warm flavors of apple pie in a fraction of the time.

Perfect for busy weekdays, unexpected guests, or whenever you’re craving something homemade, this recipe uses simple pantry staples and fresh apples to create a dessert that’s both satisfying and surprisingly easy to prepare.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Ready in about 15 minutes.
  • No oven required.
  • Simple everyday ingredients.
  • Soft, fluffy cake with caramelized apples.
  • Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or afternoon coffee.
  • Budget-friendly and family-approved.

Ingredients

For the Apples

  • 3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Batter

  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

For Garnish

  • Powdered sugar
  • Extra cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg and sugar until light and slightly frothy.

Add the milk and vanilla extract.

Mix in the flour, baking powder, and salt until the batter becomes smooth and lump-free.

Step 2: Cook the Apples

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Melt the butter and add the apple slices.

Sprinkle with cinnamon and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the apples begin to soften while still holding their shape.

Step 3: Add the Batter

Pour the batter evenly over the apples.

Gently spread it so the apples are completely covered.

Step 4: Cook

Cover the skillet with a tight-fitting lid.

Reduce the heat to low and cook for approximately 10 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.

The transformation happens when you flip the cake and reveal its beautifully caramelized apple topping, creating a dessert that looks as impressive as it tastes.
